CASE STUDY: HELVAR

Helvar is a privately owned Finnish intelligent lighting control and component producer. Established in 1921 with a focus on radio equipment, today Helvar is a Finnish success story with a presence in 40 countries and a turnover of some 75 million Euros.

We were commissioned to create a modern and flexible home for the sales, R&D and management functions of the organisation, in their new head quarters in Espoo’s Keilaniemi. As well as serving as an efficient work-space and training facility, the office needed to function as a test-bed for Helvar’s own lighting controls and components. Initially we challenged the designs prepared before our involvement, and reorganise the plan to create a large entrance lobby. The lobby greets visitors, who are bathed in light from the stunning area of LED lights hidden behind a membrane ceiling. Controlled by a mobile app, the system exhibits the latest innovations, and can be updated as new tech is developed.

Lighting controls and a flexible system throughout the space allow Helvar’s engineers to install new products and experiment with functionality, as well as demonstrate their products to visitors.  The office is also home to a training facility. Due to the technical nature of the project our back ground as architects allowed us to coordinate elements carefully in collaboration with the design team’s technical experts.
